On Monday evening, a small group of hotel, restaurant and spa operators will walk out of Henri in Covent Garden carrying a bag. We’ve spent almost as much time thinking about that bag as about the room itself, and we wanted to explain why, and to thank the ten brands who filled it, before the night rather than after.
If you run a property, you already know the reasoning. Guests don’t remember a stay as a whole. They remember the greeting, the temperature of the room, the handwritten note, the goodbye at the door. The last detail is the one they carry home, and on Monday that will be true in the most literal sense.
We built ääni around the first detail: the phone call that happens before anyone has met the guest. It seemed only right that
the launch evening at Henri should take the same care over the last one.
What’s in the bag
Ten brands are supporting the evening. None of them had to say yes, and every one of them did.
For the table: Ladurée, Made Uncommon and Peppersmith
For the room: Rituals, Noble Isle and ARRAN Sense of Scotland
For the desk: Manuscript and Matere Studio
For the journey: Circular&Co. and Myte & Boo
We grouped them this way because each group is a moment in a stay, and each moment is somewhere a property earns, or loses, a guest’s good opinion.
The table
The first is our nearest neighbour. Ladurée’s story began in 1862, when Louis Ernest Ladurée opened his bakery on rue Royale in Paris; the house describes itself as the originator of the macaron and a pioneer of the tea room (
Ladurée). Its Covent Garden shop and tea salon at 1 The Market is a few minutes’ walk from Henri. Ladurée is providing luxury gifting for the bag, along with freshly baked goods and teabags served during the evening itself.
The chocolate comes from Love Cocoa, founded by James Cadbury, and our thanks go to Made Uncommon, the group Love Cocoa joined in November 2025. Made Uncommon describes itself as uniting “mission-led chocolate brands built on craft, character, and conscience” (
Made Uncommon), a stable that also includes COCO Chocolatier, UP-UP and Seed & Bean. It’s providing luxury chocolate gifting, which we suspect will not all make it home.
Peppersmith makes sugar-free mints and gum with xylitol, using Black Mitcham peppermint grown on a farm in Hampshire (
Peppersmith). Pocket packs and tins are going into the bag. The mint at the end of a meal is one of the smallest gestures in hospitality and one of the most noticed.
The room
Three of the names in the bag may already be familiar from your own bathrooms.
Rituals started 25 years ago in Amsterdam, brought bath, body and home care together in a single range, and is today a Certified B Corporation (
Rituals). It also supplies hotels with a dedicated
amenities line. For Monday, Rituals is providing full-size hand wash and full-size body lotion. Not miniatures. That’s a detail your housekeeping team would notice, and so did we.
Noble Isle was born in 2012 after a year and a half in development, founder Katy Simpson told
Walpole, and its bath and body range is made in Britain with extracts from producers across the British Isles. Its amenities feature at
The May Fair Hotel and with
Hand Picked Hotels, so some of you will recognise the bottles. In the same interview, Simpson put the principle plainly: “We are proudly British and it is very important for Noble Isle to remain manufacturing in Britain.” Noble Isle is providing luxury bath and body gifting.
ARRAN Sense of Scotland is a family-founded company that began more than 35 years ago as Arran Aromatics and unveiled its current name in 2016; its bath, body and home fragrance collections are made on the Isle of Arran at its Home Farm factory, an old dairy farm near Brodick Castle (
ARRAN press office). Its candles and fragrance gifting will give the bag its scent, and probably the room too; the candle gifting isn’t on sale yet, ARRAN has given our guests a first look ahead of its launch, and we’ll leave it to them to say when that happens.
The desk
Some of the best moments in a stay are still done by hand, and two of our brands make the tools for them.
Manuscript is a British family pen company that has been producing writing tools since 1856, based in Highley, Shropshire (
Manuscript). It’s providing bespoke pens engraved with the ääni name. We like the idea that a note written to a guest next month might be signed with one.
Matere (pronounced Mat-air, and trading as Matere Studio) is the stationery brand of Creative Director and Brand Designer Jessica Howard, who founded it in London in 2021 (
Top Drawer). In her own description, her experience working with highly considered brands such as Aesop led her to create a collection of luxurious paper goods that feel as good as they look, seeking out some of the world’s finest papers and refined waste materials, including recycled coffee or beer-flecked papers and linen book cloth made from ocean plastic (
Matere). She has a particular interest in working with hospitality and lifestyle brands, where tactile, memorable moments can shape and elevate the guest experience. Her boutique design notebooks are in the bag for the ideas you’ll want to write down on the train home.
The journey
Circular&Co. is a circular design company on the north coast of Cornwall, founded in 2003 by former Dyson designer Dan Dicker, and best known for the Circular Cup, which it describes as the world’s first reusable cup made from recycled single-use coffee cups (
Circular&Co.). It’s providing bespoke reusable coffee mugs carrying the ääni mark, made to be used for years rather than admired for a week.
Myte & Boo makes bespoke travel gifts and keepsakes, from luggage tags to travel wallets, for travellers, families and the people who work in travel (
Myte & Boo). Bespoke leather luggage tags are going into the bag. If you spend your working life making other people’s journeys go well, you deserve one small thing that makes your own easier.
Why the last detail
A property that answers the phone at eleven at night and a property that hands you something thoughtful at the door are doing the same thing. Both are paying attention when it would be easier not to.
That’s the whole idea
behind ääni Voice, which is live today. It answers the calls nobody could get to, so the first detail of a stay is never missed, and your team gets back the time to look after the ones that follow. On Monday we’ll be talking about the first detail for most of the evening. The bag is our way of ending on the last.
